What We Test For

Our panel identifies bacteria and fungi commonly implicated in chronic and acute wound infections, including polymicrobial mixes that are under-detected by traditional culture. Nail specimens (onychomycosis) can also be assessed for fungal organisms.

Myth vs Fact

Myth: If a wound looks clean, infection isn’t likely.
Fact: Biofilms and mixed pathogens may persist beneath the surface. Molecular testing improves detection and helps tailor therapy.

Why Accuracy Matters

Delayed or incomplete identification can prolong healing and increase risk of complications. PCR helps reveal hard-to-culture organisms and mixed infections, supporting targeted clinical decisions.

How It Works

  1. Collect: Wound swab, tissue, or nail specimen using Axis collection guides.
  2. Ship: Overnight with prepaid materials.
  3. Process: Real-time PCR targeting relevant bacterial/fungal pathogens.
  4. Report: Clear results indicating detected organism(s) to inform therapy.
